Three Steps to finding the right company for you
Now that you know what to look for in a place of business, you can begin applying and interviewing for positions in the Philippines. Here are some steps you can take during the interview process that will boost your chances of landing at a company that’s the right fit for you.
Do your research
Get some background information on the company before you interview with them. Take a look at their website and pay attention to any values or mission statements. Do they align with your values? Does their purpose or mission sound like something you want to support? You might also be able to find reviews of various companies. Ask the right questions
Consider what you want in a company and ask about those issues during the interview process. If work/life balance is important to you, ask about a company’s vacation policy. Some companies don’t have a vacation policy – they trust their employees enough to manage their own time, so workers can take time off whenever they want or need to.
If you have specific salary requirements, you can bring that into the conversation at the appropriate time. If a company is unwilling to negotiate with you on salary, that could potentially be a red flag that they don’t value their employees very much. If you want to work for a business whose mission speaks to you, be sure to ask about their values and how the team works together toward shared goals.
You should also familiarize yourself with the company you’re applying to beforehand. For one, this will help you articulate answers to questions in the interview. You should ask yourself a series of questions before applying to a company in the Philippines. These include:
Why did I apply for this job? What about it was interesting?
How does it align with my long-term career ambitions?
What are my personal values?
What are 2-3 questions I can ask the interviewer? Examples include why the company is hiring internationally and what are they looking for?
Ideally, you’ll be interviewing with more than one company in the Philippines so you can compare and contrast their personalities. Is one company offering a higher salary than the other? Does one company’s mission resonate with you over the others? If you value ample time off and one job has a strict vacation policy while the other doesn’t have one at all, that might be a key indicator that the latter company is a better fit for you. If you’re hoping to learn on the job and one company offers an employee education program while the other does not, that’s also something to consider when weighing your options.
Lastly, take a look at the employee turnover rate for the companies you’re considering. If a company has a high turnover rate, it’s usually a sign that previous employees haven’t been happy in their jobs and sought employment elsewhere.
